Howard Industries fined $193,000

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is hitting one of the Pine Belt's biggest employers with a steep fine.

The agency fined Howard Industries $193,000 Wednesday for 54 federal safety law violations.

OSHA found 36 serious violations at the main plant in the Laurel Industrial Park and 15 more at the Eastview plant.

OSHA said Howard failed to provide employees with protective equipment, among other things. Two of the 54 violations were repeat offenses. The plant has 15 business days to contest the citations.
