Area Amber Alert test run successful

Digital advertising billboards around the Pine Belt ran Amber Alert tests Monday, proving the system ready for action.

Lamar County officials and the National Center for Missing and Endangered Children have joined a nationwide effort to inform the public about children in danger, severe weather alerts and even local traffic information.

"The partnership that was formed allows us to help public service and gets this message out within a matter of minutes," said Cliff Russum of Lamar Advertising. "It's something we're looking forward to using and helping out the city."

There are about 300 digital billboards used for Amber Alerts throughout the country.
