Laurel police arrest suspect in cocaine bust

A 25-year-old man is behind bars after Laurel police busted discovered over $10,000 worth of drugs and money.

Police say around 7:30 p.m. Monday they raided the home of Algaro Aguirre on Popular Drive in Laurel. They confiscated over 2 ounces of pure powder cocaine, $9,000 in cash and three hand guns.

Police say they are also investigating Aguirre for identity theft after find several social security cards and passports.

Authorities say drug-related crime is becoming all to common in the area.

"Hispanics, blacks, whites -all are running drugs," said Laurel Police Department Captain Steve Dearman. "Some run certain drugs, mostly with the Hispanics you're going to see powder cocaine, with blacks you're going to mostly see crack cocaine; whites you're going to mostly see crystal meth and ice."

Aguirre is in Jones County jail awaiting bond.
