Jones County man arrested for statutory rape of 12-year-old

Michael Maxcey, 20, is transported to jail on statutory rape charges following an alleged tryst with a 12-year-old Jones County girl. Michael Maxcey, 20, is transported to jail on statutory rape charges following an alleged tryst with a 12-year-old Jones County girl.

A Jones County girl is back home with her family while her 20-year-old companion is behind bars facing statuatory rape.

The 12-year-old girl walked away from home after her parents said she could not stay over a friend's house Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before noon Thursday, the girl was found at a house in the Red Hill community with 20-year-old Michael Maxcey. Deputies said when they found the two they were in bed asleep.

Authorities said there was evidence of alleged sexual contact between the two. Now, Maxcey is in Jones County Jail on statuatory rape charges.

"In this case, what we have here is consensual sex between the two," said Sheriff Alex Hdge. "But, as result of the age of the person, what we will be doing is charging him with salutatory rape, which all falls under sexual battery. I don't find there to be any tolerance for it. I will not make no excuses for it. If he didn't know how old she was, he should have. We will be recommending the maximum sentence."

Maxcey was already out on bond on drug charges; however, he will make his first appearance in court sometime today.
