Fundraisers held for cancer and Alzheimer's research

A couple of organizations in our area were out raising funds today to battle two terrible diseases.  First, employees of Forrest General Hospital's Surgical Services hosted a 2nd annual yard sale at the Live Well Center.

It raised money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  Donated items such as clothing, books and toys were sold.  That Relay for Life in Hattiesburg will be held April 25th.

And just a few miles away, another group was hoping to raise money to battle Alzheimer's Disease.  Members of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association held a 15th annual garage sale at a community center on West 4th street.

Donations from golf clubs to gift items were sold.  Funds raised will be used for Alzheimer's research.

In the last 15 years, the garage sale has raised more than $40,000 dollars to fight that disease.
