The 41st Annual children's Book Festival started Wednesday at The University of Southern Mississippi's Thad Cochran Center.
The three-day festival will feature the first De Grummond lectureship and will introduce the latest author to receive the Southern Miss Medallion. Every year a national committee of experts in children's literature chooses an author to recognize for lifelong achievements.
"The book festival has a long history of 41 years, and it's very prestigious," said De Grummond Children's Literature Collection Curator Ellen Ruffin. "So, we've really benefited from the history of the book festival. There are so many people who have come before now who have helped to make it what it is."
