Laurel man arrested in drug raid

A Laurel man was arrested when he came home during a police drug raid Wednesday.

Travis Thompson, 23, is being held in Jones County Jail without bond. Laurel police say, while they were executing a search warrant on Thompson's home on North 18th Avenue, he drove by.

Police say when they stopped Thompson and patted him down they found approximately 16 grams of cocaine, 75 ecstasy tablets and approximately $500 in cash.

"We would just like to thank the citizens for bringing this to our attention," said Steve Dearman of the Laurel Police Department. "They are the ones that live there; they are the ones who know what's going on and what supposed to be in the neighborhood and what's not, and what's unusual in there. When they call us, we do our best to check it out. And with the help of the neighbors in this neighborhood we've taken a drug dealer off the street."

Police say at the time of his arrest, Thompson was out on bond on another drug charge. He's back in jail now. Authorities say he could face up to 20 years if convicted.
