In emergency session Wednesday, the Forrest County Board of Supervisors voted to impose a burn ban for the county effective at 7 a.m today.
The ban is in response to a rash of brush fires throughout the county in the last week that have resulted from burning debris. County fire coordinator chip brown says the lack of rain, extremely low humidty and high winds have made conditions ideal for brush fires to get out of control.
"We're at 18-19 percent humidity, yesterday, day before, and that is just of unheard of in Southern Mississippi," said Forrest County Fire Coordinator Chip Brown. "Those are real favorable conditions for wild fires, and they are really hard to put out when you have humidity that low and the winds that high."
