Stand Down program offered for veterans, homeless

The Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center, along with Oak Harbor Recovery Facility, held their annual "Stand Down" program for veterans and the homeless.

Several organizations came to participate and inform attendees about the services they can use.

"We are trying to get veteran's services to the VA," said Andrea Robinson, employment coordinator. "We're trying to get them housing, health screenings and just a place to come for fellowship and to relax from living on the streets."

The Southern Miss School of Nursing and the Salvation Army are just a few of the organizations that participated in Wednesday's event along with nearly 50 veterans.
