After months of financial struggle, Covington County Hospital will be without delivery services at the end of June for expecting mothers.
Hospital representatives say obstetric services will be suspended because of the low number of deliveries. Late last year the hospital board of trustees voted to allow Pioneer Health Services to take over the hospital because of its failing financial status and employee retention.
The company was also hoping to finally open a nursing home adjacent to the hospital, but so far, County Supervisor Author Keys said little progress has been made.
Keyes says by mid-summer if the hospital isn't operating like the board thinks it should, supervisors may step in and lease or sell it.
