Jones County officials say jail overcrowding a problem

Supervisors say the over crowding in Jones County jails is becoming a problem.

Officials say they have to hold murderers, rapists and other serious offenders, but weekend criminals committing petty crimes are being released even though they owe fines because there is nowhere to house them.

"We going to have to do something," said Beat 4 Supervisor Andy Dial. "The county, the cities, all of us are owed a lot of money through fees; it could be through contempt of court and other things, but we don't have no where to lock them up right now."

Dial says they'll talk more about this in issue in months to come.
