Students participate in reading fair

Over 300 students from across Mississippi expressed their love of reading Tuesday in Hattiesburg, as part of the Southern Regional Reading Fair.

The 12th grade class made visual displays of their favorite books. Stories like the "Polar Bear Express," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Where the Red Fern Grows," and "The Secret Garden" were just some of the students' favorite reads.

"They select a book, a fictional book, and depict that book with a board," said Reading Fair Organizer Mary Walters. "There are certain elements that are required to be put on that board, and then the boards are judged on certain qualities."

Organizers said students from 33 school districts, plus parochial and home schooled students, participated in the reading fair. Students were judged in several categories.
