State Representative Toby Barker presented a legislative update on what is happening at the capital, including the Mississippi Taxpayer Transparency Act.
It is a bill Barker authored that would allow taxpayers to go to a Web site to see a rundown of where state money is being spent from bond money to contracts.
Barker said he introduced nine bills this session, and so far three are still alive. Barker said the Transparency Act passed the House and will now go to the senate.
"It is about sunshine, it is about open government and access, and it allows us to have a conversation on where our government can improve in it's efficiency," said Barker.
Concerning the cigarette tax, Barker said the House and Senate need to compromise, and he believes that will happen by the end of the session.
