Lamar OKs West 4th bid

Work on the West 4th Street expansion project is expected to start in the near future.  The Lamar County supervisors voted Monday to accept the bid of Southern Rock of Brandon.

Southern Rock's bid of $3.287 million was the lowest of four bids received for the project, and 8 and a half percent under county estimates.

The proposal must now go to MDOT for concurrence on the wording of the contract.

County officials say motorists can expect a lot of disruption of traffic during the approximate 14-month project.

Once MDOT signs off on the contract work is expected to start within 30 to 45 days.
