Moss Point names Gaston interim chief of police

Frederick Gaston has been named an interim chief of police in Moss Point.

The city's board of aldermen unanimously selected the 48-year-old Gaston, of Biloxi, to replace Chief Demetrius Drakeford, who resigned earlier this month.

Drakeford will be with the department until December 31st.

Gaston's salary will jump to $52,500 annually when he takes over January 1st.

Gaston has 18 years of law enforcement experience and has been with the department as an  administrative officer since April when he was recruited by Drakeford.

Gaston said he will be among the applicants for the police chief position.
