A 53-year-old DeSoto County man has been indicted on 23 counts of trying to sell houses and property he did not own.
Kenneth Ray Crego was served with the indictment Tuesday. He was being held on $100,000 bond in the county jail. Crego is charged with false pretense, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each count.
Commander Mark Blackson of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department says the department first began receiving complaints in April 2006.
Blackson said investigators found that Crego would talk with people, offering to sell them houses or property in the Blue Lake Springs area of DeSoto County.
Blackson said sometimes Crego would take a deposit and sometimes it might be a down payment.
He says he didn't believe the victims got their money back.
