Hazlehurst police chief to resign

A city spokeswoman said Tuesday that Hazlehurst Police Chief Kendrick Mitchell will resign December 4th.

The announcement came after an investigation into an auto accident in Mitchell's personal vehicle October 28th. No one was injured.

Mayor Henry Banks' administrative assistant Pamela Wilbert said the city's Board of Aldermen will discuss the investigation Wednesday. She said she had no further information on why Mitchell decided to resign.

Last week, Mitchell was placed on administrative leave while the city looked into the accident.
