Jackson man drowns in Rankin Co. reservoir

A 24-year-old Jackson man has drowned in

the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Christopher Lamont Slaughter was swimming Saturday when he

drowned around 6:30 p.m. Reservoir police Chief Perry Waggener said

an investigation showed the man's death was an accident.

After pulling Slaughter ashore, rescue workers attempted

resuscitation. He was pronounced dead later at River Oaks Hospital.

Slaughter's is the first drowning death in the Rankin County

reservoir this year. At least two men drowned there last year.
