Starkville voters OK $26.5M school bond issue

Starkville voters have approved a $26.5 million school bond issue.

Complete, but unofficial results from Tuesday's election show 66 percent approval for the bond issue.

Bond issues require 60 percent approval for passage. Officials say although 139 affidavit ballots remained to be counted, they would not affect passage of the bond issue.

School officials say the bond issue will finance, among other things, a $4 million two-story addition to Sudduth Elementary School.

It also covers a $9 million renovation and additions at the Ward-Stewart Elementary/Henderson Intermediate school complex and other improvements.
