A judge has approved the city of Lucedale's plans to annex nearly 2.4 square miles north and west of current city boundaries.
The plan was presented at a hearing Monday before Chancery Court Judge Jaye Bradley and was unopposed.
The annexation will become final within 10 days of Bradley signing the decree. After it is signed, the chancery clerk will then send a certified copy of the decree to the Mississippi Secretary of State.
The U.S. Department of Justice must also review the decree and determine if redistricting will be necessary.
