Man convicted in sexual assault gets 3 life sentences

A Harrison County Circuit Court judge has sentenced a man convicted for the kidnapping and sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl to three life sentences without parole.

The girl, now eleven years old, identified 27-year-old DeCarlos Antonio Moore in court.

Prosecutors said the girl testified, and DNA evidence corroborated, that Moore assaulted and choked her in February 2006 until she passed out in his apartment, then dragged her into nearby woods for another assault.

Harrison County Circuit Judge Jerry O. Terry on Wednesday ordered Moore to serve the sentences consecutively.

Jurors found Moore guilty of sexual battery, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Moore was prosecuted as a habitual offender. He had prior convictions of manslaughter, robbery and drug possession.
