Laurel I-59 S-Curve project ahead of schedule

Motorists can now see the progress on the S-Curve project in Laurel. Officials say it's running ahead of schedule.

MDOT officials say the structure for the bridge overpass is about 85 percent completed. They say the bridge overpass comprises nearly half of the project, which is three quarters of a mile long and is costing $26 million.

Interstate 59 is being reconstructed and realigned from 16th Avenue to Fourth Avenue.  The reconstruction will also include two new Beacon Street exits.

Construction crews plan to move traffic northbound on the bridge in the summer of 2008 and complete the entire project a year later.
