Brandon man sentenced in slaying

A judge has sentenced a Brandon man to eight years in prison with six years suspended for manslaughter in the shooting death of a teenager.

Twenty-five-year-old Johnathan Jones was sentenced Monday by Hinds County Circuit Judge Swan Yerger. The maximum penalty for manslaughter is 20 years in prison.

Yerger also sentenced Jones to one year of unsupervised release.

Yerger, in sentencing Jones, blamed the victim, 18-year-old Reginald Daniels, and his two accomplices for setting in motion the events that led to Daniels' death on Dec. 28, 2005.
