Greenville biodiesel plant nearing production

A Greenville biodiesel plant expects to start production in the next few days.

Scott Petroleum's special projects manager, Darrell Forman, expects to start production at its biodiesel plant in Greenville after running final checks.

The plant converts soybean oil and animal fats into biodiesel. The 100 percent biodiesel is then blended with petroleum diesel, usually into a 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum mixture.

Biodiesel normally can be used in any diesel-powered vehicle without any engine modifications.

The plant will produce 20 million gallons a year when operating at capacity.
