The Hattiesburg City Council voted Tuesday night to override Mayor Johnny DuPree's veto of a Council approved contract that transferred operations of the train depot to the Lake Terrace Convention Commission.
Mayor Dupree had announced his veto of the contract just hours before Tuesday's Council meeting. What drew the most debate between the Council and the Mayor was the interpretation of what the Mayor cited as paramount reasons for the initial veto. Those reasons being third party contracting requirements and Federal Transit Administration Guideline. However, the council voted 3-1 to override the Mayors veto. A veto would normally require four votes, but Councilwoman Deborah Dennard Delgado was absent.
Last week in DuPrees absence the City Council voted to move the recently renovated train depot under the umbrella of the Lake Terrace Convention Center Commission.
