For those of you who didn't know, today was Grandparents Day and one Hattiesburg church decided to honor some of the grandparents in their congregation with a special service. An afternoon program at Zion Chapel A.M.E. Church honored both senior citizens and the church's late pastor, A. J. Parnell, who passed away just three weeks ago.
The event featured music, poetry and a presentation of nearly two dozen grandparents.
"We need our young people to think and work hard when they get into the church and to honor their senior citizens and to be able to relate to them," said Callie Pittman, organizer of the service.
A total of 17 grandparents were honored during the program.
