Ex-NEJ teacher charged as child predator

A retired Jones County teacher has been charged with being a suspected child predator.

James Donald Nowlin, 61, of Laurel, made his initial court appearance Friday in Gulfport. He's accused of using his personal computer to communicate with an individual he knew to be under the age of 16.

Police believe he did so with the intent to "entice, encourage, offer, and solicit the individual to engage in sexual activity." Nowlin was an art teacher for 32 years at Northeast Jones High School.
