John Leguizamo was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1964 and emigrated to the United States with his family four years later.
Leguizamo grew up in the New York City borough of Queens and attended New York University where he began his formal study of acting. His career has been multi-facted, from comedy clubs to theater stages to television and movies. His off-Broadway Show, "Mambo Mouth," won Obie and Outer Circle Critics awards in 1991, igniting Leguizamo's career. That show, and his 1993 prodiction "Spic-O-Rama," satirized Latin American stereotypes.
Although Leguizamo has appeared in a number of movies, including "Summer of Sam" and "Collateral Damage," he also is well-known for movies in which he did not appear: voicing characters in "Ice Age," "Doctor Doolittle" and "Arabian Nights."
