Lalo Schifrin was born in Buenos Aires in 1932 and emigrated to the United States in 1958.
In his early years, he studied music in his native Argentina and in Paris, and became a respected jazz pianist. After moving to the U.S., he added to his repertoire, gaining accolades as a conductor and composer as well as as an arranger and performer.
Schifrin has written dozens of themes and scores for movies and television. Perhaps his most familiar work is the theme to "Mission Impossible." Less well-known, perhaps, is the fact that he collaborated with Clint Eastwood on music for the "Dirty Harry" films.
Schifrin has won four Grammy awards and been nominated for six Oscars.
