The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources says the oyster season will open in parts of Hancock County on September 5th.
The area in the Mississippi Sound near Bayou Caddy will open at the same time as adjacent Louisiana waters for oyster harvest to "ease enforcement issues.
Mississippi Department of Marine Resources shellfish bureau chief Scott Gordon said the opening of Hancock County waters is the first big step taken for oystering since Hurricane Katrina.
The season will run from September 5th through September 21st with a 20-sack limit for fishermen.
That limit can be increased or decreased by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources' director depending on what happens.
