A gruesome discovery along Interstate 59 Wednesday: MDOT workers clearing land near the Moselle exit found the body of a man who appeared to have been dead for a couple of days.
Around 3 pm authorities received a 911 call from MDOT workers reporting they found a body of a black male south of the Moselle exit nearly 30 feet off the interstate.
Sheriff Larry Dykes says the body was badly decomposed as a result of the extreme heat
He was identified Monday night as Robert Reeds, 40, of Hattiesburg.
It's believed the victim may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident at the Moselle exit over the weekend. Apparently, he fled the scene, ran into some woods, then collapsed.
An autopsy is being performed in Jackson.
