State Superintendent Hank Bounds delivered some grim news to Jeff Davis County school officials and concerned parents in Bassfield Monday night.
Bounds told board members, a state conservator and residents that the high deficit, loss of students and low-level schools are just some of the problems plaguing the district.
He says folks can expect to see more job cuts in the future and says there will be tough days and years ahead for the district as it recovers from a massive financial deficit.
"We're just in the infant stages of trying to solve the multitude of issues that this school district has and unfortunately we can't snap our fingers and make it happen overnight," Bounds said.
The Jeff Davis County school district currently has three Level 2 schools and one Level 3.
