Police investigate hotel pool incident

A sister and her brother are listed in critical condition at a Jackson hospital after almost drowning in a hotel swimming pool.

The Jackson Police Department is investigating the incident at the La Quinta Inn hotel where two children were found in the courtyard pool Monday morning.

The children - ages eight and nine - are being treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center after being pulled from the pool by hotel guests who spotted them at about 7:00 a.m. Their names haven't been released.

Hotel guest Jessica Allen said she saw the boy floating on his back in the courtyard pool and the boy's sister tangled in a net struggling to keep her head above water.

Allen and her three friends helped pull the children out of the pool and tried to administer CPR.

Jackson police spokesman Commander Lee Vance said the mother works at Central Mississippi Medical Center.

Her husband was taking her to work there when the incident occurred.

Police say the parents live at the hotel.
