Hub man jailed after wrong-way road chase

A Hattiesburg man is behind bars tonight after leading authorities on a chase that included driving in the wrong lane on two major area highways.

The chase came to an end when the driver crashed to avoid hitting oncoming traffic on an off-ramp at Highway 98 and Interstate 59.

Sheriff Billy McGee says the chase started near Camp Shelby when 23-year-old Terry Durr refused to pull over for driving a vehicle with no tag.  He jumped the median and headed north in the southbound lane of Highway 49, then took the Highway 98 exit against oncoming traffic.

Authorities believe the car Durr was driving was stolen in Hattiesburg earlier in the week.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
