Grand jury indicts two, drops murder charge against one suspect

Two men are facing indictments from a Madison County grand jury in connection with a fatal shooting on Interstate 220 in Ridgeland in March.

Charges were reduced for one of the men from murder to accessory after the fact because evidence suggested he was not the shooter.

Twenty-four-year-old Jeremiah Payton, of Jackson, was indicted on one count of murder and three counts of aggravated assault in the death of 22-year-old Angela Harden.  Twenty-seven-year-old Anthony Brunson, also of Jackson, was indicted on one count of accessory after the fact.

Assistant District Attorney Scott Rogillio says it appears from the evidence that Brunson did not participate in the shooting, but he assisted his co-defendant in avoiding arrest.

Both are being held without bond at the Madison County Detention Center.
