Natchez mayor given OK to sign contracts needed for new prison

The city of Natchez is moving ahead with plans for a $105 million private prison.

On Tuesday, Mayor Phillip West got the green light to sign contracts to meet water and sewer service requirements for the prison.

The approval by city aldermen will allow West to sign upcoming contracts with the Mississippi Development Authority and engineering firms.

Corrections Corporation of America has said it intends to build the prison to house 1668 federal inmates.
