Miss. workers to be 'educated' on Toyota

The premier expert on Toyota says it will take workers at Toyota's Mississippi plant about three years to learn the Toyota Production System.

A noted authority on Toyota's operations and philosophy, Jeffrey Liker, says the first step is for workers to get the skills necessary to make a quality car.

He says Toyota's Georgetown, Kentucky plant will act as a "mother plant" to the Mississippi plant, which is scheduled to open in 2009 northwest of Tupelo.

The Highlander sport utility vehicle - currently being built in Japan - will be built at the one-point-three billion dollar Toyota plant near Blue Springs.
