Lamar County to convene 2 new courts

Lamar County is upgrading its justice system with two new county courts.

County officials have agreed to create a new county court after legislators gave their approval.

Lamar County leaders requested a new county court because the population grew after Hurricane Katrina.

Lamar has a part-time county court but will have full-time county and youth courts beginning next January.

The courts would provide seven new job positions for the county.
