Petal couple admits Katrina fraud

A Petal couple has pleaded guilty to filing false claims to FEMA for Hurricane Katrina assistance.

Ronnie Mackey and Sharon Travis entered the guilty plea in federal court in Jackson to cashing a FEMA check for more than $1,300 using false identification and forged signature, made payable to a different recipient.

Both Mackey and Travis were sentenced to three years supervised probation and ordered to make restitution.
