A new housing complex will soon open for students on the Southern Miss campus. "The Village" as it's called, will consist of 12 separate halls with more than 350 beds.
Most will be reserved for sororities. One will house the women's basketball team and the other will used as a scholarship hall.
Today, a walking tour was hosted by Southern Miss officials. Construction began last April.
The first few buildings are set to open in mid-August.
"We've had a good working relationship with our architect and our contractor and I think we've produced a product that our students will enjoy staying in," said Chris Crenshaw, director of residence life for Southern Miss.
The Panhellenic, which was the former home for U.S.M. sororities, will now be used as a freshmen women's dorm.
