Wesley Medical Center and City of Hattiesburg "Walkin'" together for healthier citizens

A local hospital is the first in our state to officially endorse the new "Let's Go Walkin' Mississippi" campaign.  And Hattiesburg's Wesley Medical Center is teaming up with the City of Hattiesburg and it's, "Get Healthy Hattiesburg" campaign to do just that...help local citizens lead healthier lives.

Today, a kick-off event was held for the hospital's "Let's Go Walkin' Mississippi-Walking Challenge."  Several teams of employees will take part over the next 10 weeks.

"We're going to be keeping track of our steps over the next two or three months and just seeing how many steps we can all accumulate, just in an effort for us to promote the healthy environment we all want to live in," said Ron Seal, Chief Executive Officer of Wesley Medical Center.

"Our goals are the same and that is to make sure that the citizens of Hattiesburg are healthy," said Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree.  "And I appreciate Wesley participating in this.  Actually, Wesley has allowed some of its employees to be on our (Get Healthy Hattiesburg) steering committee," Mayor Dupree said.

About 200 employees are expected to take part in the challenge.
