Man arrested in Ocean Springs rape case waives hearing

A suspect in a Ocean Springs robbery and rape case has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Jess L. Green made his first appearance in city court Wednesday and told the judge that he did not want the charges against him read in court. The case now goes to the grand jury.

City Judge Matthew Mestayer sent the 20-year-old Green on to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. No bond was set.

Green is facing seven charges from two incidents that occurred June 30th and July 2nd in which two women told police that a man robbed and abducted them from the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on U-S Highway 90 in Ocean Springs.

Police say the first woman told investigators the assailant, at gunpoint, raped her in her vehicle and took cash. The second woman also was forced at gunpoint to drive from the parking lot to another location, but escaped and ran to a nearby home.

Green has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of sexual battery, one count of attempted sexual battery and three counts of kidnapping because an infant was in the first vehicle.
