Corinth schools to bar cell phones in classrooms

The Corinth School Board has voted to prohibit students from having cell phones in classrooms beginning with the new school year.

The cell phone policy also extends to other electronic devices, including i-Pods and other digital music players.

The policy had previously required only that cell phones remain off and out of view during the academic day, but board members agreed to take the policy a step further.

School officials says they are concerned about the possibility of students using phones to send text messages of test answers and, to a lesser extent, taking photographs of tests.
