Band members react to 5th consecutive championship for Lion's Band

Students and staff of the 2007 Mississippi Lion's All-State Band are still celebrating an un-precedented 5th consecutive international championship that they won in Chicago this week.

The band returned to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville late Saturday night after being named the winning band at the Lion's International Parade of Nations on July 4th.  The Lion's Band from Pennsylvania took second place.

Lion's bands from Mississippi have won 25 of the 58 international competitions.

"I'm so proud to represent not only our state on a national level, but international level," said Katie Barr of Petal, a dancer in the band.

"Not many people get an opportunity to march or play with people so talented and passionate about what they do," said Zac Cannon, a percussionist from Pearl.

"It's a completely different musical experience every year," said Lindsey Mask of Corinth, who plays clarinet in the band.  "And this year has topped every one, because we got the five years in a row, which is really great," Mask said.

The Mississippi Lion's Band won its first championship in 1951.
