Sick inmate busts Jones jail budget

Jones County taxpayers are being stuck with an accused criminal's $63,000 hospital bill. A jail inmate who's awaiting trial was taken to the hospital and stayed there 13 days.

Sheriff Larry Dykes says when an inmate gets sick while in custody the department cannot refuse medical treatment.

Dykes says he was forced to hand the bill over to the county because that one inmate's bill exceeded the $60,000 that was budgeted for all inmate medical expenses for this entire fiscal year.
