July 4th celebrations begin early in the Pine Belt

Some South Mississippians are really "diving" into the 4th of July holiday.  Actually, a few members of the Gold Coast Skydivers from Lumberton are "skydiving" into the holiday to be exact and they did so tonight at the Hattiesburg Country Club, as part of its Independence Day celebration.  Several members of the club parachuted into a lake on the golf course about 6 p.m. Sunday night to begin the evening's celebration.

The event also included a buffet, live music and a scheduled fireworks show.

Fireworks were also scheduled tonight to conclude an annual July 4th celebration at Hattiesburg's Temple Baptist Church.

Thousands gathered at the church's west campus this afternoon for some family fun, which included live music, lots of food and games and activities for kids.

Earlier, church members gathered for a special morning service to "Celebrate America" with patriotic music.
