Jackson woman faces felony charge in death of her 4-month-old

A 22-year-old Jackson woman has been charged with felony child neglect in the death of her 4-month-old son.

Amanda Kersh was being held without bond Wednesday pending an initial court appearance. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison.

Police Sergeant Jeffery Scott says Kersh is charged with child neglect rather than child abuse or capital murder because it is not believed she physically abused Christopher.

Scott says Christopher Brown Junior died June 10th from shaken baby syndrome.

The child's father, Christopher Brown Senior, was arrested June 11th and charged with capital murder in the baby's slaying.

Scott says Kersh is accused of placing the child in harm's way.

Officials say an autopsy showed signs the child suffered physical abuse over an extended time.
