Vicksburg officials say panhandling is problem in the city

Vicksburg Mayor Laurence Leyens wants a no tolerance policy for panhandling. He says beggars are hurting the image of the historic Mississippi River city.

Leyens said he could no longer ignore the problem after he invited an out-of-town couple interested in buying a local home to visit Vicksburg. He says on two occasions the couple was bothered by a panhandler.

After the incidents, the couple decided Vicksburg was not the place for them.
