Administration changes at Southern Miss

A new president isn't the only change happening in the administration of Southern Miss.  Recently, the University's provost announced his resignation.

Southern Miss Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jay Grimes will step down from his position on July 31st.  Grime's next career move will take him to the coast where he will lead a research group at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.  Southern Miss President, Dr. Martha Saunders will appoint an interim provost and a national search will be conducted to permanently fill the position.  The USM president says she is looking for specific qualities in a new provost.

"In a Provost position someone needs to understand the breadth of the university, have a good understanding of what the colleges are doing," says Dr. Saunders. "It's like jumping on a merry go round that is going full tilt. University's don't stop as administrators come and go so we would need someone who can get up to speed and someone with substantial administrative experience."

Dr. Saunders adds that she will appoint an interim provost by the end of July.
