Record five people die on Father's Day in coastal Mississippi wrecks

Five people died in three separate Father's Day traffic accidents, setting a Mississippi Highway Patrol record.

Master Sergeant Joe Gazzo of the Mississippi Highway Patrol says one or two fatalities happen on some nights, but rarely this many.

Two of the fatalities happened in Hancock County and one in Jackson County. All five were men, ranging in age from 21 to 52.

The first fatality occurred at 2:21 a.m. in Hancock County at the crossroads of Mississippi 603 and Paradise Lane.  Twenty-six-year-old Jason Dossett, of Kiln, was killed after he was ejected from his vehicle which overturned and hit a tree.

The second fatal accident was at 4:22 a.m. at the 60-mile marker on Interstate 10 in Jackson County. Fifty-one-year-old Joseph M. Crow, of Hartselle, Ala., and 21-year-old Jarvaris Barnes, of Fort Pierce, Fla., were killed in a head-on collission.

Two passengers died in the third accident that occurred at 6:28 a.m. at the nine-mile marker on Interstate 10 in Hancock County. The victims were 30-year-old Drew Pridgen, of Panama City, Fla., and 52-year-old Donald Lewis Heckler of Cedar Park, Texas.
